Open houses to explore proposed Area ‘B’ zoning bylaw

Area ‘B’ residents will have an opportunity to look at the proposed Electoral Area ‘B’ Zoning Bylaw No. 851 during two open-house meetings slated for Thursday, August 9.

The first one will be held at the Trout Lake Community Hall from 10:30 am to 1 pm and the second one will be at the Revelstoke Community Centre from 6:30 pm to 9 pm.

Columbia Shuswap Regional District Planner Jan Thingsted will provide a brief presentation at both meetings (11 am in Trout Lake and 7 pm in  Revelstoke) and residents will have an opportunity to view maps, ask questions and offer comments.

“The Area ‘B’ Official Community Plan was completed in 2008,” Thingsted said in a statement.

“It is the guiding document and the zoning bylaw is the regulatory aspect that follows the OCP. Zoning puts the OCP into effect and helps ensure the long-term vision for the community is respected because zoning regulates the use and development of a site or parcel of land.”

Electoral Area ‘B’ Director Loni Parker is hoping for a good turnout at the two open houses.

“We had a good turnout for the OCP open houses and I am hoping people will come out for these ones,” she said. “We really do want the best product possible and that happens when we have public feedback.”

CSRD planning staff will consider all the public comments and will make appropriate change to the zoning bylaw.  The zoning bylaw will then go back to the CSRD Board for second reading, as amended.

Anyone unable to attend can still review the bylaw and submit comments via the CSRD website at www.csrd.bc.ca.

“It’s always exciting to see a project of this significance come to fruition,” Parker said. “At the end of the day, I hope people will be very pleased with this.”
