It’s Heritage Week in British Columbia and both the Railway Museum and the Revelstoke Museum are hosting special presentations.
On Wednesday, February 19, Revelstoke Museum Curator Cathy English will present a Brown Bag History talk about the colourful history of steamboats along the Columbia River. As always, Cathy’s talk will begin at 12:15. Interested parties are invited to bring their lunch and hear what she has to say. Admission is $5 and coffee and cookies are provided.
Then on Saturday, February 22, from 11 am until 5 pm, the museum is presenting two slide shows for the general public. At 11 am it has slide show of steamboats on the Columbia and at 1 pm it is showing slides about Revelstoke’s heritage neighbourhoods. Heritage Day at Revelstoke Museum & Archives. There is also an all-day BC Hydro Powersmart display and activities as well as children’s activities. As an added bonus people are invited to research their property’s history. Admission is by donation.
Meanwhile, the Railway Museum will be open from 1 pm until 3 pm with Railway Reflections — a special multi-media show by Doug Mayer of the Model Railroad Club. His presentation will focus on the CPR facilities in the Revelstoke Division in the 1950s. His one-hour presentation will be followed by a discussion involving retired railroaders. It will be held in the theatre at the Railway Museum. Admission is by donation. Members get in free.
