Social Development Coordinator Jill Zacharias is so confident local photographers can show the general public what makes Revelstoke a healthy community that she’s willing to pay them for their images.
Using a grant from BC Healthy Communities Zacharias envisions an exhibition of about 20 mounted images that clearly illustrate the way our town and its inhabitants is a living, breathing healthy community.
All local photographers are invited to submit images that do just that.
To get involved in this project photographers are invited to attend a mandatory orientation session at 7 pm in the Community Centre’s Macpherson Room on Thursday, January 16. Would-be participants unable to make the mandatory meeting can contact Jill at 250-814-3875 or send an e-mail to e.jill.zacharias@gmail.com.
The deadline for submissions is noon on Monday, February 3. Photographers will be paid Jill at $35 per image selected and used in the exhibition, which is scheduled for Feb. 10 – 21 at the Community Centre.
The exhibition itself will be a variation on the familiar post-a-sticker-or-a-dot-beside-the-thing-you-like/dislike format commonly used to gauge public reaction to different issues.
“I think this is very exciting,” Zacharias said during a brief interview on Monday. “Not only will these images be different and vibrant, I’ll be asking the pubic to look at the photos and write down what things we could be doing to become a healthier community. Then I’ll draw names give away the photos.”
