The Revelstoke Vintage Car Club is planning a huge event this year — a May Tour and exhibition that could bring between 150 and 300 antique vehicles to town from all over the West during the May long weekend, May 16-19.
“It’s going to be a really big deal,” local VCC President Dennis Berarducci said at a recent planning meeting for the event, which is called Steaming into Revelstoke. “We have roughly 150 cars signed up and I’m willing to be we’ll get about 300 cars total.”
The weekend (Please click here to see the full itinerary for Steaming into Revelstoke.) will kickoff Friday, May 16, with a wine and cheese event at the Railway Museum.
The next day, Saturday, May 17, auto owners will take their mechanical beauties up Highway 23N for a photo shoot on top of Revelstoke Dam followed by a parade through the city. They’ll be on display downtown and there will be judging and trophies for the best looking machines. The ever-popular Blues Brothers 2 will perform downtown and there will be a show band at the Community Centre, where there will also be a banquet.
On Sunday, May 18, the show cars will drive to Three Valley Gap to visit resort’s extensive collection of antique cars and trucks. Then, they’ll return to the Community Centre for another dinner, catered by Emo’s.
The show will end Monday morning with a final farewell over coffee and muffins at the Railway Museum.
Derek Long, chairman of the Vintage Car Club of Canada, said events like this one are remarkable because they bring out the very best in antique cars.
“You can get everything from a common Ford to a Duesenberg,” he said.
