November is a busy month at the Revelstoke Performing Arts Centre, with everything from a children’s fantasy to a rock opera taking center stage.

Bergmann Piano Duo
Friday, November 1, at 7:30 pm
“176 keys: 2 pianos in delightful harmony” Revelstoke Arts Council proudly presents an entire concert devoted to 2-piano, and piano 4-hand repertoire. Elizabeth and Marcel Bergmann became a piano duo while studying in Montréal. This remarkable Duo has since garnered many awards including first prize at the International Chamber Music Competition in Caltanissetta, Italy and at The 4th Murray Dranoff International Two Piano Competition.

Raven Meets the Monkey King by Axis Theatre
Saturday, November 2, at 3 pm
JJ, an inquisitive 11 year old, dreams of becoming a rich and famous treasure hunter and hits the jackpot when she buys a mysterious box from a garage sale. Once she gets home the box magically opens releasing the spirits of the Raven (First Nations) and the Monkey King (Chinese), who were trapped in the box for ninety years. Past and present all join together in a rollicking tale of how our lives are transformed by the people we meet, the choices we make and the stories we tell.

Of Harlots and Harlequin by Havok Way
Saturday, November 9, the doors at 6:30 pm and the show begins at 7 pm
Havok Way brings their menacing Rock Opera Epic to Revelstoke! “Amongst a Tainted world of a Created Fright, a Controlled Chaos of a Tortured Night.”
Tickets $10 available online and at the door. This is an all- ages event, but the music stylings and atmosphere may not be suited to younger children.
The Bills
Thursday, November 14, at 7:30 pm

The Bills are an acoustic roots music powerhouse. Blending exquisite songcraft, instrumental virtuosity, sublime vocals and an unpretentious good-time energy, their 2013 album, Yes Please, offers a stunning collection, sure to attract listeners from across the sonic spectrum. Their previous two releases were JUNO nominees, and the band is legendary for its high impact live performances. The Bills have been named Entertainer of the Year, Touring Act of the Year, and have been recognized as one of the great current folk/roots recording acts. Whether its at festivals or theaters from California to Stockholm, The Bills know how to show an audience a very good time.

Babies
Documentary presented by the Revelstoke Early Childhood Development Committee
Wednesday, November 20, at 7 pm – FREE
Directed by award-winning filmmaker Thomas Balmès, from an original idea by producer Alain Chabat, Babies simultaneously follows four babies around the world – from birth to first steps. Re-defining the nonfiction art form, Babies joyfully captures on film the earliest stages of the journey of humanity that are at once unique and universal to us all.
Relative Jazz
Friday, November 22, at 7:30 pm
Relative Jazz presents its Winter Concert 2013. Special Guest Performance by the Revelstoke Community Choir. Relative Jazz was formed in late winter 2012 with the four members coming together from other groups. The members have a common love for jazz, and an interest in forming new connections to investigate various possibilities of restructuring old favourite tunes. Within the group abounds a plethora of musical instruments and years of experience playing all genres of music. On the books are tunes ranging from classic jazz, reggae, funk, blues to even a little rock & roll.

The Fugitives
Sunday, November 24, doors open at 7 pm, White Ash Falls play at 7:30 pm, and The Fugitives take the stage at 8:30 pm
The Fugitives are a group of musicians, poets, and multi-instrumentalists from Vancouver. The quartet features the songs of novelist/musician and former Canadian SLAM poetry champion Brendan McLeod, and musician Adrian Glynn, recently nominated for Emerging Artist of the Year at the Canadian Independent Music Awards. Together with their band, they create “dizzying, Arcade Fire-ish crescendos, replete with parallel melodies, complex harmonies and brimming torrents of emotion.

Kon-Tiki, part of the Revelstoke Multicultural Society’s Movies in the Mountains series
Wednesday, November 27, at 7:30 p.m.
Directors: Joachim Roenning and Espen Sandberg Language: Norwegian with English subtitles Kon-Tiki is an epic retelling of Thor Heyerdahl’s 1947 expedition across the Pacific Ocean. With stunning cinematography Roenning and Sandberg’s faithful retelling of Heyerdahl’s expedition is by turns exciting, tense, and, ultimately, triumphant.

Said The Whale
Saturday, November 30, doors open at 7 pm. The opening act Escondido begins at 8 pm and Said The Whale begins playing at 9.
Vancouver’s Said The Whale has been on a steady upward trajectory for the past six years, as relentless touring and a prolific string of releases have led to successes including a JUNO Award in 2011 for New Group of the Year and nationally charting singles. In 2013, the tireless five-piece — which includes dual songwriters Tyler Bancroft and Ben Worcester, drummer Spencer Schoening, keyboardist Jaycelyn Brown and bassist Nathan Shaw — will continue to break down doors by releasing its most adventurous and hook-filled batch of songs yet.
