Starting next Monday First Street and Connaught Avenue will be the focus of City crews for the next few weeks as they work to fix potentially serious sewer and water issues.
The City needs to reconnect the roof drains from at least one building, where they had been flowing into the sanitary sewer, into the storm sewers. The City also needs to work on a water line along First Street as well a couple of issues at First and Mackenzie.
“It needs to be done because if there is a complete failure in the winter we can’t do anything,” Darren Komonoski, operations manager for the Department of Engineering and Public Works, said during a verbal report to Council on Tuesday, September 10.
It will cost between $85,000 and $100,000. The funds will come from the City’s capital works fund.
Komonoski said it will take two or three days to complete the excavation along Connaught. Construction fencing will be erected along the sidewalks, he said.
Municipal workers should have everything completed and back to normal by the end of the first week of October, Komonoski said.
