A pit bull attack on a two-year-old Pomeranian on the 1600 block of Douglas Street on Sunday left the tiny dog in serious condition, says a statement from the RCMP.
The owner of the Pomeranian was taking it and another animal out for a walk at about 3 pm when the tiny canine was attacked.
“The owner of the pit bull was charged under the municipal Animal Control Bylaw Section 2F, “Vicious dog not securely confined on owner’s premises,” Cpl. Thomas Blakney said in the statement, adding that the owner of the dog — which was sent out of town — has offered to pay for the tiny Pomeranian’s veterinary bills.
The Mounties are currently discussing other enforcement options with the City’s Bylaw Enforcement officers.
As of today, September 9, the Pomeranian, named Shiloh, is in stable condition at Salmon Arm Veterinary Hospital.
“The Revelstoke RCMP and the City of Revelstoke would like to remind persons who own a pit bull, pit bull terrier, American pit bull terrier, Staffordshire terrier or any dog of mixed breeding which includes any of those breeds (in its heritage) that Section 2E (of the Animal Control Bylaw) that these dogs must, at all times, be muzzled and kept on a leash within the Revelstoke city limits,” Blakney said.
He said RCMP officers will, along with bylaw enforcement, followup with the pit bull’s owner to ensure his compliance with the Animal Control Bylaw.
