Whimsey, quirkiness and imagination = Summer Art Fair 2013

From start to finish, this year’s Summer Art Fair, which opens this Friday at the Revelstoke Art Gallery by the Day’s Inn, is quirky, whimsical, imaginative and downright fun.

The show features terrific art by some of the city’s best visual artists. Newcomers to our fair city  should know that the Revelstoke Visual Arts Society stages a Summer Art Fair every year. This is a great opportunity to scope what’s on offer by some of your favourite local artists. Want an original painting by Cherie Van Overbeke? Between her stunning Bed of Poppies and her whimsical bears you have some real choices to make.

There are ceramics on offer, as well, and two of the most interesting pieces are Sandra Flood’s modestly priced Flora I and Flora II. And then, if like quirky, you’ll love the collection of recycled light bulbs created by Lori Anderson. These look like they are a heck of a lot of fun and I predict they’ll sell out in a heart beat.

There is also an exhibition of drawings featuring work by Barbara Mayes, Diane Winingder and Kimberly Olson in one of the side galleries. Diane’s drawings of two dogs are quite lovely and are fine examples of her painstaking attention to detail.

The Summer Art Show and the Drawing Exhibition open with a public reception at 6 pm on Friday, July 12. They are open Tuesday through Saturday, noon until 4 pm until September 6.
