Revelstoke’s Sparks, Brownies, Guides, Rangers and Pathfinders had a great night on Wednesday at their annual district advancement ceremony.
There were lots of parents and siblings present to watch the excited girls receive public recognition for their work in the movement.
The different levels of the Guiding Movement are active and successful in Revelstoke as they offer young girls an opportunity to become self-confident and assertive and learn about nature and themselves. Along the way they learn new skills and discover the value of working together and how to serve the community.
The girls that received awards are:
- Catherine Perkins and Lindsay Grant — Junior Leader and Gold Thank You pins for their volunteering with the Spark Unit:
- Lauren Channell, Anna Kampman and Linnea Allain — Lady Baden Powell Award;
- Alexis Allain and Samara Channell —Canada Cords, which have the added value of being recognized 2 high school community service credits;
- Lindsay Grant, Catherine Perkins, Toni Teed and Rylee Johnson — Ranger Service Awards and Ranger Cookie Campaign Certificates;
- Tammy Voykin (missing), Alex Cole, Joanne Pendrak, Donna Alm, Kaleigh Beattie and April Rivett (missing) — New Unit Guider Appreciation Pins;
- Chris Meade, Kelli Redman, Alex Cole, Michelle Cole and Lisa Moore —Bronze Unit Guider Pins, which is awarded to Guiders who help girls achieve greatness;
- Tammie Johnson and Nancy Jenson — Gold Unit Guider Pins, awarded for dedicated service in helping girls achieve greatness.
A large number of Service Stars, which recognize leaders’ time in service with the Guiding Movement were also awarded. While most were for relatively short periods of time a number of women have been working with the movement for many years. Among those long-service leaders who received stars were: Kellie Christy, 35 years; Nancy Jenson, 22 years; Andrea Threatful (missing), Kaleigh Beattie and Tammie Johnson, 18 years; and Terrilane Threatful (missing), 16 years.
“With all the adult members we have 200 years of volunteer service with Girl Guides of Canada here in Revelstoke,” said District Commissioner Roma Threatful.
