At last! Revelstoke may finally get a Festival and Events Coordinator!
The Chamber of Commerce and the Revelstoke Accommodation Association have jointly announced the creation of this position, which everyone in town knows has been badly needed for years.
“The successful candidate will be an experienced, take-charge professional with the ability to create, market and sell new festivals and events to potential groups, associations and individual visitors to Revelstoke,” Judy Goodman, the Chamber’s executive director, said in an announcement on Monday, May 6.
“This position requires an individual that can coordinate the administration and logistics of events. The successful candidate must be able to meet deadlines, be willing to travel and work occasional evenings and weekends. This is a two-year contract position, with the Revelstoke Tourism Team.
The men and women who organize and stage festivals and events in Revelstoke have long recognized that the community needed one person who could rationalize the way — and days — that events are held. This could wind up with people being offered great events on separate evenings instead of what currently happens — the simultaneous presentation of two or three great events on one evening, which usually results in smaller audiences than might otherwise be achieved with some rational event planning.

Ah! The heat and sunshine may be glorious but it also heralds the City’s summertime watering restrictions.
The use of water for sprinkling, irrigation, and the washing of driveways, and sidewalks is only permitted at even-numbered property addresses on even-numbered calendar days and odd-numbered property addresses on odd-numbered calendar days between the hours of 6 am and 10 am only.
If further watering restrictions are required the City of Revelstoke will implement Stage 2 watering restrictions which restricts residents to hand watering of plant material only.

If you’ve never held a squirming young sturgeon and released it into the wild you’ll have an opportunity to do just that this Thursday at Shelter Bay.
The annual event, hosted by the Upper Columbia White Sturgeon Recovery Initiative, will see 6,000 ten-month-old sturgeon released between 11:30 am and 1 pm.
“This is a great way to really reach out, touch, and help an endangered species quite literally,” Gerry Nellestijn, chairman of the Community Working Group of the UCWSRI. “The fish look — and feel — like creatures from prehistoric times; in fact, they have largely remained unchanged for 175 million years. By getting the community, particularly the younger generations, involved, and increasing awareness, we feel there are much better chances for the survival of this population.”
For more information about this free community event please call 250-352-1300 or send an e-mail to angus.glass@bchydro.com.
