If you missed last week’s All-Candidates Debate you’ll still have an opportunity to meet them at the Shuswap Columbia District Labour Council’s All-Candidates Open House.

The SCDLC is holding this event at the Railway Museum on Thursday, May 9, at 5 pm.

Refreshments will be available and this will be an opportunity to meet the candidates in a semi-social environment.

The Revelstoke Hospice Society is holding its annual Hike for Hospice on Sunday, May 5, at 1 pm.

The hike, actually more of a gentle walk, starts at the Revelstoke Museum and Archives and will be led by Museum Curator Cathy English, who will talk about the history of downtown Revelstoke.

“We are hiking in memory of a loved one,” the society said in an e-mail to The Current.

This is a free event and will delight people who not only love our city and wish to know more about it but who are seeking a way to remember their friends and family who have died.

The Revelstoke Community Foundation will be holding its annual celebration at the Hillcrest Hotel on Thursday, May 2, starting at 7:30 pm.

All members f the public are cordially invited to attend and learn about the Foundation’s activities. Refreshments will be served and money will be awarded to groups that had applied for grants.

The Performing Arts Centre has an interesting lineup of shows this month:

  • May 2 — The Reel Paddling Film Festival the world’s best paddling films of 2013. Tickets are $15 and are available at Skookum or Back on the Rack in downtown Revelstoke and online.
  • May 10 — The modern Celtic band, Cod Gone Wild, bring their driving rhythms and tight vocal harmonies to The Centre. Tickets are $20 and are available at ArtFirst! or online.
  • May 15 & 16 — Just for Kicks Dance Recitals.
  • May 18 — The Phantom of the Opera Returns! Peter Karrie and Melina Moore, delight us with an intimate and rare evening of rousing solos and tender duets highlighting favourite songs from Les Miserables and the Phantom. Tickets are $30 and are available at ArtFirst! or online.
  • May 25 — Blues Caravan 2013: Tomorrow’s Guitar Heroes. This annual tour presented by Ruf Records brings rough-and-tumble guitarists from North America, Jimmy Bowskill a native of Canada and Bart Walker from the US, together with a dynamic British female singer and guitar player, Joanne Shaw Taylor, whose every show is a display of raw and emotional power. They are accompanied by drummer Dennis Palatin and bassist Ian McKeown of the Jimmy Bowskill Band. Tickets are $20.50 and are available at ArtFirst! and online.
