Tom Jackson, actor, singer and philanthropist, will bring his national Christmas concert series, Singing for Supper, here on Dec. 9.
“This is very, very exciting for us,” says Patti Larson, coordinator for the Community Connections Food Bank, which will be the beneficiary of the concert. “Tom Jackson is a fabulous performer and we have very high hopes for attendance at this concert.”
Now in its sixth season, the Singing or Supper concert is touring 18 cities from coast to coast. Jackson’s
musical advocacy for Canada’s less fortunate has resonated for 22 years as he has amassed over $10 million for food banks, family service agencies and disaster relief. In 2008, $402,000 was raised and 13,417 pounds of food collected from the tour.
Singing for Supper is a two-hour concert opening with Shannon Gaye followed by Denis and Lynae Dufresne, who comprise the duo, Pear. These artists have played with Tom in many variations for a number of years and it was only natural they take the stage to
perform in some of the R&B, pop and country genres they specialize. The second hour features Tom delivering classic and contemporary Christmas selections. One of the new songs in his repertoire is the soon-to-be released single, The Gift, available on iTunes or sold as a single with 2 bonus tracks at the concerts. Distributed by EMI Music Canada, this single — as well as the compilation CD Singing for Supper On Tour — is also sold online at www.singingforsupper.ca
The concert will be performed at the Revelstoke United Church on Dec. 9. The doors open at 6:15 pm and the concert begins at 7 pm. Tickets are available at Community Connections. Concert-goers are also encouraged, should they so desire, to bring a donation of non-perishable food to the concert.
