Over 400 athletes competed in the last cross-country ski race of the year, and Revelstoke Nordic skiers went out with a bang at the Okanagan Cup meet at Sovereign Lake near Vernon on Sunday.
No surprise was Megan Evans, who dominated the field with a win of well over a minute for the ten kilometer race. Alana Brittin and Tayla Koerber were at the top of their game as they both won gold. Simon Blackie and Erik Brosch had excellent placings in a very competitive category, finishing 2nd and 5th respectively.
Elizabeth Elliott kept her momentum from last weekend’s midget championships with a silver medal in her skate race today. Nelson Luxmoore got his first ever medal in skate skiing, and his sister, not to be outdone, showed a strong 6th place finish in her first top ten finish of the year.
Now begins the long off season of roller skiing practices, trail running, biking, strength and interval training. A special thanks to coach Matt Smider, and the amazing wax team that traveled to every race, often arriving in the dark to start preparing athlete skis for each race.
