Kraft, the company that made the Hockeyville contest an annual sensation, is giving away $1 million to minor hockey associations and one Revelstokians thinks we should get a piece of the action.
“It’s simple,” say the rules for Kraft’s Hockey Goes On… because of you Contest. “Nominate someone who you feel dedicates their time and effort to ensure hockey goes on within your community. In a minimum of 250 characters and a maximum of 2,000 characters, tell us how this person has made a difference in your hockey community and how they inspire others to give back. Be sure to include the name of the Hockey Canada-affiliated Minor Hockey Association the Nominee would like the prize money to go to.”
“Dennis Berarducci would be an excellent candidate to win the big prize for Revelstoke Minor Hockey,” said one reader of The Current who heard about the contest on Thursday “I hope other citizens agree and would be prepared to vote on March 23 & 24 for Dennis and Revelstoke.”
Dennis is an ideal choice as nominee. He is known locally as Mr. Hockey and has for decades been active with the Grizzlies and Minor Hockey in our city. Dennis is well-known, too, for creating the History of Hockey displays at the Forum and has worked tirelessly to ensure that hockey thrives in our community. He is well-known outside of town for his efforts, which garnered him a Lifetime Achievement Award from the BC Hockey League in 2010.
The contest rules state that all eligible entries will be evaluated by a judging panel. The Top 100 finalists that have the most compelling story or submission entered will be announced on the contest website on March 16 and will move on to the voting phase.
“That’s where the fun starts,” the contest rules said. “Beginning at 9 am (ET), from March 23-24, grab your friends, rally the community, and start voting to help make a hockey dream in the finalist’s community come true!”
The top 5 grand prize winning nominees will be announced April 2. Each grand prize-winning nominee will receive $100,000 for their selected Minor Hockey Associations. A total of 20 second prize-winning nominees will win $20,000 to be awarded to their selected Minor Hockey Associations.
So… Dennis, buddy… ready or not you are bound to be nominated. Personally, I can’t think of a better nominee.
So far 239 people have been nominated from across Canada.
