Remembering women victimized by violence 2012-12-06The Revelstoke Women’s Shelter held its annual vigil to mark the National Day of Remembrance and Action to End Violence Against Women at the Community Centre on Thursday. Dec 6 was the 23rd anniversary of the 1989 Montreal Massacre when a disturbed young man named Marc Lepin walked into the Montreal Polytechnique and deliberately killed 13 female students and a female staff mambers because he blamed ‘feminists’ for his personal problems. The local ceremony was short but poignant as people — the top image shows Jewelles Smith — carried white carnations and placed them on empty chairs that symbolized the fallen women.
