SALMON ARM — Revelstoke BC Liberal Peter Bernacki was one of several local Liberals who attended a dinner for retiring MLA and former cabinet minister George Abbott last week. Premier Christy Clark also attended the event, which was held at the Prestige Inn. Peter, who is a big fan of the premier, took the opportunity to present her with a special gift — a copy of a Revelstoke Current photo that showed her posing with Mayor David Raven and Judy Goodman, executive director of the Chamber of Commerce, beneath a banner held by Ashley Soberly (left) and Peter Bernacki when she came here last summer to speak to Revelstoke women. The gift, as you can tell from her face, was a welcome surprise. Mayor Raven spoke at the dinner, too. “I had not prepared anything and did not expect to speak, however, I did feel that Revelstoke and the CSRD should have something to say,” Raven, who is also chairman of the Columbia Shuswap Regional District said. “My comments were simply to thank George for representing us and noting his long history with Revelstoke, and for being a ‘class act’ in a stormy political world where we appreciated his integrity and support for our communities.” You can see a clearer image of the original photo below.
