Mount Revelstoke steamed in 2009

Editor’s Note:

The 2009 Steamer was held two weeks ago and I am only now getting around to posting the results and Michael Welch’s terrific photos of the event. As some readers may know I had to go to Ottawa for a family medical emergency so I missed the event itself, though Mike was kind enough to shoot it and send me the photos. Naturally, work didn’t stop because of my family’s situation. It just piled up and I am only now getting the last of it squared away. My apologies, therefor, to all The Revelstoke Current readers who had hoped to see these results and images sooner. So without further ado here are the top results from the 2009 Steamer, which was sponsored by Flowt, and a selection of Michael’s images.

The top cyclists in the Under 40 Women’s Category were: Sue Smith with a time of 1:35:59; Anne Marie Gill, 1:36:17; Cindy Koo, 1:41:17; Liz Birch, 1:46:19 and; Robin Wall, 1:47:24. Among the Over 40 Women, the top cyclists were: Leah Goldstein with a time of 1:21:57; Laura Dyer, 1:34:02; Atsuko Knight, 1:42:40; Lisa Jaffary, 1:52:55 and; Linda Janzeau, 1:53:44.

The top five Under 40 Men were: Matt Hadley with a time of 1:15:44; Matthew O”Hagan, 1:16:41; Ryan Campbell, 1:18:14; Keith Balstone, 1:19:07 and; Shawn Taylor, 1:19:26. The best times among Over 40 Men were posted by Jonas Sandstrom with 1:15:54; Wade Christie, 1:16:10; Tom Stewart, 1:17:12; Daniel Dube, 1:17;33 and; Rob Reid, 1:20:58.

Here are some of Michael Welch’s superb images from the event, which saw 106 men and women attempt to make the summit of Mount Revelstoke in the least amount of time along the park’s 27-kilometre roadway. You can also see them at www.flowt.org/Flowt_web_page/Photos/Photos.html. To see more of Welch’s photography lease go to www.michaelwelchphotography.com.

Was it the scenery, the chance to ride up Mount Revelstoke or simply the presence of a photographer that bought out riders' smiles? Photo courtesy of Michael Welch Photography
