From a search for a “living link” in Western Australia to a new winter map in Glacier National Park and planning for an upcoming event to mark their 25th anniversary, he Friends of Mount Revelstoke and Glacier have a lot going on.
On Monday, March 19, the Friends’ Adventure Travel Series features Robyn Abear’s presentation, In Search of The Living Link in Western Australia, at Mackenzie’s Dining Room in the Powder Springs Hotel. Presentation starts at 7:30 pm and, as always, is free for members. The suggested donation for non-members is $5.
A living link? That does sound intriguing, doesn’t it?
From the heat of Western Australia back to the cool late-winter snows of British Columbia, the Friends are publishing the fruits of a two-year project — a new winter Rogers Pass map.
“This map has been over two years in the making,” Neills Kristensen, the Friends’ executive director, said in a statement. “Backcountry users requested a waterproof backcountry skiing map and we are happy to have one available. We have already sold over 500 since it was printed.”
The map is a larger format from the summer version and covers Rogers Pass, the Trans Canada Highway and a vast section of the backcountry of the park including: Wolverine, Hermit, Sir Donald, Bald, Asulkan, Battle, Faith and Fortitude Ranges. Paired with Ski Touring in Rogers Pass by Eric Dafoe and John Kelly, the new winter map provides an overall visual of the park for a better understanding of the ski areas.
Both the map and the book are available at various locations including: the Friends of Mount Revelstoke online store and office, Glacier Circle Bookstore in Rogers Pass, Parks Canada Administration Office in Revelstoke, Rogers Pass Discovery Centre, Valhalla Pure Outfitters in Revelstoke, Grizzly Books in Revelstoke and Mountain Equipment Co-op in Calgary and Vancouver.
This year marks the 25th Anniversary for the Friends of Mount Revelstoke and Glacier and the organization is actively seeking your ideas for celebratory events.
“We would like to know what types of events and activities you would like to see?” Kristensen said
“It can be an old event or a new one or something you just love. Suggestions have included an overnight trip by snowshoe to Wheeler Hut, trips into Nakimu Caves or work on a larger project like Glacier Circle Cabin. Drop us an email or stop into the office and let us know.”
