News reports from Victoria say that Joshua Bredo, the man accused of murdering Revelstokian Daniel Levesque in August, was released from custody Friday after the charge was stayed.
Levesque, 20, died and Bredo was injured after a fight in a Victoria condo on Aug. 3.
The investigation failed to produce sufficient evidence to convict Bredo, Victoria police said Friday.
Word of the decision by Crown prosecutors to release Bredo quickly made the rounds in Revelstoke.
Daniel had been a very popular young man in his home town who looked forward to a bright future. He played guitar at various spots in Victoria and was often accompanied by Bredo.
Bredo was known to different police forces in both BC and Alberta and, according to the Victoria Times-Colonist, used a variety of phony names including Joshua Baba, Joshua Chartier and Josh Mitchell.
