Mayor David Raven, unopposed by any challengers, is acclaimed but a real race is shaping up for City Council with 13 candidates vying for six seats.

Incumbents Steve Bender, Chris Johnston, Tony Scarcella and Phil Welock are being challenged by nine newcomers to politics: Rick Hodgson, Linda Jean Nixon, Jim Ritchie, Jason Roe, Karen Schneider, Jody Simm, Gary Starling, Murray Velichko and Pat Wells.

Over the next few weeks these 13 candidates will be introduced to voters through the local media and via the traditional all-candidates meetings organized by the Chamber of Commerce.

The School Board Candidates’ Forum will be held Wednesday, October 26 at 7 pm at the Seniors Centre. The All-Candidates Forum for Council and Area B will be on Wednesday, November 2, at the Community Centre.
