With live music, a children’s play area, great contests and lots of activities, the New Moon Over Mackenzie is ready to rock the downtown core on Saturday.
“We built it, now the question is: ‘Will they come?'” Chamber of Commerce Executive Director John Devitt asked rhetorically.
Perhaps it’s not such a rhetorical question after all. The festival was thrown together in just three weeks, much of it due to the hard work of EZ Rock DJ and local musician Steve Smith who lined up the bands.
Devitt also said credit is due to the Revelstoke Credit Union, the City of Revelstoke, Pharmasave, EZ Rock and BC Hydro for their heavy support for this project, which is intended to help not only celebrate the Grizzly Plaza expansion from First Street down to Third, but help make up for the way project problems left downtown merchants between a rock and a hard place, retail sales-wise this summer.
Devitt noted that the festival is really the product of the Chamber’s members who brainstormed at meetings and got involved in the planning and execution of the New Moon event. Now, it’s success is entirely in the hands of local people. Will they come out? Or will they stay away in droves?
Chances are excellent that, given the family-friendly nature of the event, the list of what’s on offer and the musical lineup, this will be a great event.
