It is with deep sadness we announce that our beloved Father and Grandfather, Norbert Carl (Norm) Sasges was called Home suddenly into the arms of God on Thursday, April 21 at the North Okanagan Hospice House. We however, are rejoicing that our father Norm has been reunited with our Mother Bev, who was the love of his life for 52 years.
Norm leaves behind to cherish his memory his children, Barbara Anne Breaks, Ken (Sirpa), Ian and Janet (Ron) Sipos; his amazing grandchildren, Melanie and Eric, Blair and Kyle; his stepgrandchildren, Eddie (Lisa) and Nathan; his step-great-grandchild, Rogan; his sisters and brother, Agnes (Larry) Streeter, Helen (Ray) Donovan and Reverend Father Emil Sasges; his sister-in-law, Valerie Farrer; his brothersin-law, Cameron (Edythe) Moore, David Moore and Barry Moore. Norm’s memory will also be treasured by many cousins, nieces, nephews and wonderful friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Bev in 2006; his brothers, Ray, Jerome and Al Sasges.
Norm was born on September 26, 1929, in Lake Lenore, Saskatchewan and moved to Vernon at the age of eight years, making this his home for most of his life. He also lived in Revelstoke for eight years. Early in his working career Norm was involved in gas fitting and blasting and later became self-employed in the concrete construction industry. A devoted father, grandfather and friend, he loved traveling and dancing with Mom; snowmobiling, wood working, watching hockey and baseball as well as “fixing things.” He was involved in the community through the Knights of Columbus, an early Director of the Vernon & District Credit Union and serving on the Executive of the Snowmobile Clubs. Norm had an integral part in the building of St. James School, the Schubert Centre and Gateby Complex and the four-storey addition to the Credit Union. He was also involved in the building of the snowmobile trails and cabin on Silver Star Mountain.
Prayers will be recited at St. James Catholic Church on Thursday, April 28 at 5 pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. James Catholic Church on Friday, April 29 at 11 am with Reverend Father Dale Normandeau celebrant. Cremation will follow.
