Peter Behncke’s back from the Canada Winter Games in Nova Scotia and with a 14th place finish overall in the Men’s Slalom and a 28th place in the Super-Combined Men’s event  is pleased with his performance.

“I really wanted to finish in the Top 20 and I did in the slalom,” he said in an interview Wednesday evening. “I am very happy with the results, especially since I earned it a national event.”

The 15-year-old Revelstoke Ski Club member was extremely grateful for all of the local support he received before and during the Games’ alpine ski events at Ski Wentworth north of Halifax.

“The community has been behind me a lot,” he said. “That really mattered.  The ski club has a great program and I am very grateful to them.”

A natural athlete with a 10-year history in the ski club, Peter was also at the 2008 Winter Games as well as the 2010 K2 Nationals in the Slalom and Super Combined, where he came seventh. He was also at the 2010 Canada Summer Games.

As for the future, Peter is taking the long view. He wants to make it onto the provincial ski team and, ideally, the national team.

“That’s where I want to end up,” he said.
