Mount Revelstoke National Park was partially closed Friday due to a small fire below the summit on the north side, says a spokeswoman for the park.
The closure area initially extended from Bridge Creek on Meadows in Sky Parkway to the summit area of Mount Revelstoke. At 6 p.m. the lower boundary of the closure was lowered to the Monashee Viewpoint on Meadows in Sky Parkway. The Summit and Lindmark Trails were closed at the Monashee Viewpoint. They remained open below that point. Backcountry trails remained open in the park.
Marnie Digiandomenico said in an e-mail alert Friday that the closure would extend until this morning.
In the meantime, all visitors are advised to be very cautious with smoking and with combustibles and to watch for fire and/or smoke in the park.
Anyone who sees a fire or smoke should call the Mount Revelstoke and Glacier Fire Duty Officer’s cell phone directly at
250-837-9215. That phone is manned 24/7.
