KASLO — Revelstoke athletes performed extremely well in the first annual Kaslo Suffer Fest, which was held on Sunday. This consisted of two separate races run simultaneously.
The Monster Enduro was a grueling mountain bike race that had competitors climb up the side of Mount Buchanan for 12.7 km before going down a technical and ultra steep 9.9 single track course. There was a net gain of 1257 metres and a loss of 1380 metres. Over 50 competitors took part with Revelstokians placing very well. Dave Sproull came in second overall and Jake Roos took third in his age group.
The Kaslo Sufferfest Trail Run was a demanding and very hilly 25 km trail run around the mountains surrounding Kaslo. Travis Hunt and Rory Luxmoore of Revelstoke were third and fourth overall in a field of almost 80 competitors. As well, Sarah Newton and Ann-Marie Gill, fresh from Ironman Canada finished first and second overall in the women’s category.
Revelstoke was not under-represented in the children’s races, either. In fact our best finishes were provided by Alexandra and Nelson Luxmoore, both winning their age groups in the two-kilometre children’s trail race.
Competitors came from Kelowna, Nelson, Rossland, Castlegar, and even as far off as Regina. Here are some photos of our athletes:
