The first weekend in May marks a special moment for the Pipe Bands of the BC Interior and the Kootenays as they team up to perform in one of the participants hometown for competition.
This year, Grand Forks hosted this event with nine other bands in attendance. Friday evening featured a “Jig & Hornpipe” contest for solo players and Shuswap Pipes & Drums member Jim Wright took home the win.
Saturday morning started with individual bands marching through town followed by a massed band with over 100 pipers & drummers parading downtown.
This was followed by individual band performances that were judged for their performance. The event continued with an evening banquet, Dance and Skit competitions.
The Shuswap Pipes and Drums alongside members from The Revelstoke Highlanders finished 1st in piping and 1st in Ensemble (effective music and overall balance between the pipes and drums.)
Revelstoke Highlanders Pipe Band practices every Tuesday,6:30-8:30pm, and most Saturday’s at 4pm upstairs at the Legion, or at Queen Elizabeth Park in the summer. We always welcome new members and give free lessons. For more information contact Louisa Fleming – louisaf@telus.net or 250-837-6385.
