Revelstoke, BC – A new electric vehicle (EV) charging station was electrified last week at the City’s Public Parking Lot located on First Street East at Orton Avenue. The Level 2 station was installed in partnership with Accelerate Kootenays – Canada’s first regional and community-driven strategy to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles.
“This charging station will help promote our community to EV drivers looking for a great winter escape. More and more people are getting behind the wheel of an electric car, and now they can travel the Trans Canada Hwy and stop here to enjoy our shops and restaurants while they recharge their EV,” said Mayor McKee.
The Revelstoke station is part of the broader Accelerate Kootenays charging network
which connects communities across the Kootenays, from Greenwood across to the
Alberta border, allowing for electric travel to and within the region.
Partnering with Accelerate Kootenays was identified as a strategic opportunity to ensure that visitors traveling by EV could choose Revelstoke as a destination or as a place to stop, shop and eat. The station is also available to residents who wish to charge up locally.
The new station is conveniently located in the downtown core, has a universal charging port (can be used by all models of EVs) and is accessible 7 days a week.
Accelerate Kootenays is a two-year, $1.5 million project and is the result of an
innovative collaboration between local and provincial governments as well as funding
agencies that have worked together to address the EV charging infrastructure gap
across the Kootenays.
Funding partners include The Federation of Canadian Municipalities, Columbia Basin
Trust, BC Ministry of Energy and Mines, FortisBC, BC Hydro and the Regional Districts of East Kootenay, Central Kootenay, and Kootenay Boundary. The Accelerate Kootenays project is facilitated by Community Energy Association.
