With winter now in full force, it is only a matter of time before there are more accidents on the highway, an emergency on the ski hill or a local who is in cardiac arrest and requires a helicopter for transport to a major hospital in Kelowna, Kamloops or even Vancouver.
The Revelstoke District Health Foundation have been instrumental over the past year fundraising for the brand new heli-pad project. Many local groups and businesses in Revelstoke stepped up and donated in a big way financially in order for this much needed emergency transport pad to become a reality.
the $465,000 goal was completed, now the question is, where is the pad?
An inspection was completed in November and progress was made on a few deficiencies. A follow up progress report will be given most likely in January.
Project Co-Chairman, Steven Hui stated in an email to the Revelstoke Current “We did manage to have almost all the work completed except for the covered walkway.”
The covered walkway is tentatively scheduled for sometime in February, once engineered permit drawings are completed and pending permit approval.
The next step is for Transport Canada to visit the site to do their inspection for the certification piece. Upon approval, a start date will be set and released by Interior Health (IH) Communications.
