Tania McCabe has been hired as Revelstoke’s new Director of Finance. Ms. McCabe’s appointment was effective on April 11.
McCabe has served as the Deputy Director of Finance for the City of Revelstoke for the past nine years and as Acting Director of Finance for the past six months. She is well-experienced in financial administration and strategic financial planning and has lead Council through the current financial planning process. She has her Chartered Professional Accountant’s designation as well as a Bachelor of Business Administration from Simon Fraser University.
In a statement announcing her hiring, Chief Administrative Officer Allan Chabot said McCabe has worked diligently with him to refocus the department to place more emphasis on long-term strategic financial planning and proactive, engaged and informed assistance to the City’s operating departments and City Council.
“I look forward to the continued evolution of financial planning and leadership under Tania’s direction,” Chabot said. “Her in-depth knowledge of local government finance and the community will serve us well. As our organization focuses more and more on asset management and community sustainability innovative and effective financial leadership will be required.”
For her part McCabe said she is “excited to be given this opportunity to serve a community that my family and I love and live in. Revelstoke has so many great future opportunities and I look forward to assisting the community in becoming financially stable and strong.”
Last month the City hired Nigel Whitehead who has been the City Planner for Dawson Creek for the past two years. He has previous work experience as a planner in Williams Lake and as a planning officer and technician for the Cariboo Regional District. He has a Bachelor of Planning degree from the School of Environmental Planning at the University Of Northern British Columbia and is a candidate member of the Canadian Institute of Planners.
