More than 75 people turned out for a demonstration in support of Wild Flight Farm, whose application for the 2017 summer market had been rejected by the market’s directors.
Their show of strength easily eclipsed the handful of counter-demonstrators organized by Rose Gentles. Both demos were held at the Community Centre. Only three or four carried placards in support the directors’ decision. Their demo was held in the outdoor space beside the paddlewheel sculpture.
“I just wanted to show my support for the board,” she said, adding that she did not like the way it had been “publicly vilified” since the story about its decision to not accept Wild Flight Farm’s membership application.
However, the community’s show of support t the Community Centre fell on deaf ears.
Farm & Market members — all of whom are vendors themselves — who disagreed with the board’s actions could not muster enough votes at the AGM to overturn their decision.
“It was like 10 for and 14 against with two abstentions,” said one of the vendors who attended the AGM.
She was clearly frustrated and said Revelstoke would be much better served by having one strong market, rather that two markets. But that is likely to be what happen this summer.
