Protestors converged on City Hall Monday, August 22, to demand action to save bears after nine nears were killed downtown in just one week.
News of the bear killings has blossomed in news stories on the CBC, the Calgary Sun and the Calgary Herald. Similar stories have also been filed by other organizations.
They have also prompted the creation of an online petition that asks Minister for the Environment Mary Polak to re-establish a Conservation Officer’s position in Revelstoke.
“I feel this event need not be repeated, with the (re)implementation of a Conservation Officer in Revelstoke and as such I have started a petition… requesting that the the Minister for the Environment, Hon. Mary Polak again explore options for such a program,” says James Bacon, creator of the petition.
So far, only 418 people have signed the petition.
