Want to have fun family this evening? Mmmm! What to do what to do…
You do have two choices for Thursday evening but they’re tough.
Choice No. 1 — At 5:30 pm The Figure Skating presents its Family Game Night Ice Skating Show at the Forum.
The young girls and boys in the Skating Show went through their paces at the dress rehearsal last week.(Click here to see some terrific rehearsal photos by The Current’s Jason Portras!) Now they are ready to perform at 5:30 pm doday — Thursday, March 17 — at the Revelstoke Forum. The Skating Club and host Shaun Aquiline from EZ Rock would like to encourage the community to come out and watch the show. There will also be some notable community folks who picked up unlucky Monopoly Chance cards and will be jailed at the event… people like His Worshipfulness, the Mayor.
“Jailbirds Mark McKee, Alan Chell, Mike Hooker, Garry Pendergast, Roberta Bobicki, Karen Powers, and Bobby McLelland each need to raise $300 to secure their freedom we would like to thank these folks and their organizations for the support,” says Skating Club President Mary Kline. “Funds raised will towards Revelstoke’s skating program and a charity of the jailbird’s choice and donations can be made at the show.”
This will be the fifth ice skating show developed and choreographed by Head Coach Nina Greschner and Kidskate/Canskate coach Adrienne Schurdevin, both past professional Disney on Ice skaters. They hope to continue to build upon the success of previous shows including Broadway on Ice, Heroes and Villains, Our Precious Planet, and Name that Movie.
“My intention is to give our skaters the opportunity to experience an ice show atmosphere where they can develop an understanding of portraying roles while executing a technical program,” said Head Coach Nina Greschner. “After months of practice and rehearsals skaters are so excited to finally be performing to the community’s local crowd.”
The show includes local skaters of all ages. The Revelstoke Skating Club offers skating programs for both young and adult skaters including Skate Canada Figure Skate Programs and a PowerSkate program designed for hockey and ringette skaters. Programs start each year in September and more information is available at www.revelstokeskatingclub.com.
Choice No. 2 — It starts at 6 pm and the $25 ticket includes supper with all the trimmings, door prizes, entertainment (of which our own George Brodie will be part of, updating the diners about RFR’s progress), and a wine bar (except you have to pay extra for that).
Tickets are available at the Community Centre and at RCU and at the door if there are any left. They’ve sold about 70 are hoping to sell 100.
Last Saturday’s Arabic Language Seminar last Saturday was well attended, and very interesting, with about 25-30 people there. Mustafa Zakreet was able to come and it was great to have his first-hand information about Syrian language and customs, and his experience in Canada so far.
Prresented Sandra Baumgartner emailed Rana to say she really enjoyed coming out from Salmon Arm, was very impressed with our response, and what a great community centre we have! Please click here to watch her her PowerPoint presentation. There are also two links below for the videos she showed to warm the audience up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyhpCZVmP-A and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNZAfd_7e6U.
Mustafa will be giving a 4-hour crash course in Arabic in Salmon Arm on Saturday, April 2, from 9 am-1 pm (Please click here to see the poster in PDF format) see attached). Sandra said if people here would like to attend and can’t come to Salmon Arm, they would look at getting it on Skype or coming out here again to present it. Please let me know if you’d like to participate via Skype, or go to SA, or ask them/he to come out here again, and I’ll follow up with them.
