Need a summer student? You have until Feb. 26 to apply for one

Kootenay–Columbia MP Wayne Stetski is reminding eligible employers and organizations that the deadline for submitting applications to Canada Summer Jobs 2016 (CSJ) is February 26.

“This is a great opportunity for students to gain experience in the workforce,” he said in a statement issued on Friday, January 22. “Programs like Canada Summer Jobs help bolster the local economy.  I encourage eligible employers to apply for this funding and hire a student for the summer.”

The CSJ initiative helps create job opportunities for youths aged 15 – 30 in their communities.  Funding is provided to not-for-profit organizations, public sector employers, and small businesses to assist with hiring students who will be returning to full-time studies in the next school year.

“One of my jobs as the Member of Parliament is to ensure Kootenay-Columbia is not left in the dark about various federal funding or assistance that is available for the riding,” Stetski said. “I will continue to work hard to bring your voice to Ottawa and bring Ottawa back to the riding.”

Assessment of the Kootenay-Columbia applications are guided by local priorities, employment factors within the constituency, on-the-job mentoring and career related experience, provision of sufficient salary and other criteria. This year, Canada Summer Jobs applications are available online and must be completed by February 26.
