Stack the Back brought out the best in local people

By David F. Rooney
EZ Rock’s first-ever Stack the Back campaign for the Community Connections’ Food Bank was major success with 34 people dropping into the studio to drop off cash donations and share a special Christmas memory or two on air with host Shaun Aquiline.
“We had over 30 guests come up to donate and share stories,” Shaun said in an e-mail to The Revelstoke Current. “We raised $3,866.33 In cash donations and then the truck was stacked up.”
Jacobson Ford donated the use of a Ford pickup, which was parked at Cooper’s for people to drop off food donations and Cooper’s ran a barbecue for the event. Many of those people trotted to the station’s second-floor office at Alpine Village Mall to wish friends a Merry Christmas and to share a seasonal memory with the community.
Here’s a list of the folks who stopped to chat with Shaun: Diane Popplewell, Barb Mukanik Kirstin Johnson, Deb Hedin, Clark Traverse, Judy Lillace, Lawrence Rebalkin, Jewellery Janet, Mark McKee, Dave Tataryn, Mary Jean and James LeBuke, Tamaralea Nelles, Ed Koski, Roma Threatful , Cynthia Prosser, Tammie Johnson, Randy Driediger Brooke Burke, Cadence Vigue, Cindy Maloney, Trevor English, Robert Okamura, Rob Aquiline, Todd Arthurs, Chris Bostock, Peter Bernacki, Malcolm Bott, Susan McCartney, Carol Pallodino, Sean Borthwick, Yorke and Monica Parkin, David Rooney and Karen Powers.
And here are a few photos of the event that we hope you’ll appreciate:

Barber Deb Hedin smiles as she recalls one Christmas when she was deeply depressed. It was a dark moment before she became a committed Christian. But her despair was eased when she felt a of unlooked-for wave of reassurance. An angel of the Lord? Perhaps. But it was lovely moment that illustrates the true meaning of Christmas: the birth of divine love and mercy. David F. Rooney photo

Roma Thrustful may be Citizen of the Year but she also wears a number of different hats, one of which is as a major supporter of the Revelstoke Grizzlies. That was the role she was wearing on Friday when she and her good friend Tammy Johnson visited the station. The Grizzlies donated 197 pairs of socks, 100 toques and 50 pounds of food to the campaign through their Sock Toss. Shaun was on air all day and asked the 31 people who dropped in to share a favourite Christmas story. Tammy had a doozie. She and her nieces started making decorative butter carvings one Christmas and its has since become a family tradition. They've carved Christmas camels, the Eiffel Tower and even a beach scene. If you'd like to see some of the carvings please go to her Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/tammie.clay.johnson. David F. Rooney
