This past fall, in partnership with Revelstoke Bear Aware, many Revelstoke Local Food Initiative volunteers gleaned heaps of fruit to decrease wildlife attractants in our town.
Then they went to work in the kitchen and preserved those fruits as canned plums and canned applesauce. To help the Gleaning Project continue to run next year they are now selling those preserves as a fundraiser at this week’s Winter Market at the Rec Centre on Thursday, December 17.
“We need volunteers to sell the jars of fruit for one hour shifts from 12 – 5pm,” the LFI said in an e-mail on Monday, December 14. If you can spare some time to help out please send them an a-mail at info@revelstokelocalfood.com to help out.
The jars make a welcome gift for hostesses, friends and family. You can also make a donation to the Revelstoke Local Food Initiative to help keep the Gleaning Project running annually.
Gleaning unused fruit removes a very potent wildlife attractant, decreasing the frequency of bears in our town and therefore decreasing the number of bears that become “problems” and need to be destroyed.

The WorkBC Employment Services Centre at 117 Campbell Avenue is holding an open house in celebration of the Winter Solstice on Friday, December 18, from 1:30 pm until 4 pm.
Snacks and refreshments will be provided and staff will be on hand to answer all of your employment-related questions.

Don’t forget that the CP Rail Holiday Train is rolling into town on Wednesday, December 17, at 3:35 pm with Jim Cuddy, Devin Cuddy and Kelly Prescott scheduled to perform from 3:45 until 4:15 pm.

Speaking of the Food Bank, EZ Rock — assisted by Jacobson Ford, Cooper’s and RCU Insurance — is going to try and fill the back of a truck with donated food items on Friday, December 18.
This event is going on all day and everyone who cares is encouraged to drop something off at the truck in the parking lot at Alpine Village Mall. You won’t be able to miss it. Who knows? Maybe you’ll even end up on air wit host Shaun Aquiline!
