Over the Rainbow was a music-and-supper treat

Last Friday’s special Over the Rainbow dinner and concert featuring soprano Melina Moore and her band was a wonderful treat for those who enjoy fine food and superb music. If you missed this experience it may help you to know that Revelstoke Mountain Resort and the Revelstoke Arts Council will almost certainly collaborate on similar events in the future.
RMR’s Den Sculnick said he’d like to bring the Kamloops or Calgary symphonies travel here for concert up on the mountain. Garry Pendergast, the art council’s executive director, was very pleased with the success of the August 21 event.
“The resort is just about the only venue where we could do something like this,” he said.
The next musical events scheduled for the resort are a number of key concerts during the Axis Mundi Harvest  being held in Revelstoke September 18 – 20.

The main features of the meal crafted by the resort’s chefs included warm garden salad of grilled green beans, asparagus and broccoli grilled and topped with goat cheese and a balsamic glaze; and eggplant and zucchini Parmesan encrusted in a rice noodle crumb and oven baked with a tomato and basil sauce; broiled wild Atlantic salmon topped with a blueberry balsamic reduction salsa served over steamed rice; and beef braciole consisting of flank steak stuffed with sun-dried tomatoes, basil, spinach and mozzarella cheese served over a cauliflower and celeriac puree. The band, composed of pianist Jim Leonard, clarinet/sax player Doug Sonju, and bassist Bill Lockie flawlessly performed great musical pieces that are rarely heard nowadays such as Over the Rainbow, The Trolley Song, Smile, Easter Parade, Embraceable You, Let's Do It — Let's Fall in Love, Bewitched and other great songs made famous by some of the greatest songwriters and entertainers that ever lived in the glorious Golden Age of Hollywood.
