City Councillor Gary Sulz is inviting Southside residents to contact him if they believe that the Kovach Park skateboard facility site plan Council approved on February 24 does not represent their wishes.
He told The Current on Wednesday, March 4, that if they contact him by e-mail at gsulz@revelstoke.ca he will try to arrange an opportunity for them to air their views at before Council.
“I am trying to get a large number of those concerned about the Kovach Park site plan to speak up if they indeed have issues with this,” he said. “If they come forward I would then assist them in being heard by management and possibly Council.”
Several people who live near the park on Edward Street have complained that the site plan (No. 3) that was approved by Council was not the choice of the neighbourhood.
Residents who were involved in the site plan process preferred Site Plan 4 and were flabbergasted when Parks, Recreation and Culture Director Laurie Donato suggested that only a few people favoured that one.
at discusses the recent controversy swirling around Council’s selection of a site plan for the Kovach Park skateboard facility that most residents do not like. Opponents of the selected site plan will have a chance to present their views to City Council on March 10.
“It was my understanding at our last planning meeting for Kovach Park that Site Plan 4 was the end result and the majority of those present were satisfied with the outcome,” he said in an e-mail to The Current.
“I also believed that this was to be presented to Council at sometime in the future. It now appears that the original Site Plan 3 along with Site Plan 4 was presented and there was no notice to the South Rev group that this was being done at the last Council meeting. The disturbing part as you can see (in The Current’s video of the February 24 Council meeting)… is that Council was led to believe that Site Plan 3 was the preferred choice and only 3-4 people were opposed to it. That is not what I believe to be the case…”
