Get ready to dress up, paste on a smile and have fun on Tuesday, October 28, at Begbie View Elementary’s first Carnival and fundraiser organized by its Parents’ Advisory Committee.
“We have booked the Photo Booth as the main attraction,” PAC member Andrea Cochrane said in an e-mail to The Current, adding that this always-fun activity will provide to be popular with kids and their families.
This event is open to all children and families in Revelstoke and the kids are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes and bring Jack o’ Lanterns that they have carved at home as there will be a contest to pick the best ones!
As well, there will be concessions, games, a Cupcake Walk, a Fill-in-the-Blank Contest and lots more to do.
The carnival runs from 5:30-7:30 pm.

If you haven’t had a chance to enjoy the exhibitions by Kip Wiley, Jennefer Rogers, Donna Naprstek and Theresa Browning, the Revelstoke Art Gallery at 320 Wilson Street is open Tuesday – Saturday noon – 4 pm. There is also a late night opening next Thursday, October 30, 5:30 – 8 pm.
The gallery’s next exhibitions will feature Art in the Park 2014: Celebrating Mount Revelstoke Centenary, Photographs by the Glacier Adventure Stewardship Program and Journey by Jo Willems. The Opening Reception will be on Friday, November 7, from 6 – 9 pm with a ‘formal’ opening at 7 pm.

Members who would like to submit work to our Christmas Shop, December 12 – 21, will need to bring in work for display on December 4 or 5.
The society is also working with North Columbia Environmental Society for a pre-winter clear up of the landscape project on Sunday, November 2, at 10 am.
There will be a variety of jobs, including:
- Back filling irrigation trenches;
- Moving soil;
- re-attaching the borders to the garden beds;
- Creating a border of gravel around and between beds;
- Setting up marker beams with flagging tape (to indicate where the beds are when the snow falls);
- Spreading leaves on top of the beds as mulch; and
- Any other clean up jobs that we may have forgotten!
Volunteers should bring cordless drills, shovels and work gloves.

The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train is returning to the rails for a 16th year to raise money, food, and awareness for food banks and hunger issues across Canada and the United States and will arrive in Revelstoke on Sunday, December 14 at 4:45 pm.
Since its launch in 1999, the Holiday Train has raised almost $9.5 million and 3.3 million pounds of food for North American food banks.
Leaving the Montreal, Quebec, area on November 26 and 27 respectively, our US and Canadian trains will make a three-week journey reaching over 150 communities.
The Canadian train will travel west and wrap up its journey December 18 in Port Coquitlam, BC.
Entertainment will be provided by Tracey Brown and Jim Cuddy. Tracey was a member of most-awarded country group, The Family Brown. Jim Cuddy is a member of Blue Rodeo.

Each Holiday Train is about 1,000 feet in length with 14 rail cars decorated with hundreds of thousands of technology-leading LED lights and a modified boxcar that has been turned into a traveling stage for performers.
The Holiday Train program is considered to be the longest-running fundraising program in North America. The Holiday Train reaches more than 150 communities each year for a combined distance of 10,000 kilometres.
Fun Facts:
- Since 1999, the Holiday Trains have covered approximately 100,000 miles, and entertained hundreds of thousands of supporters;
- It takes 30 “CP elves” 100 days to completely transform and decorate the Holiday Trains before they start their journey across Canada and the US;
- In 2012, more than 20,000 candy canes were handed out to the kids at Holiday Train events. In the 16 years of the Holiday Train program, it is estimated over a quarter of a million candy canes have been given out to children as treats.
