Something to celebrate! 2010-07-18Karen Tierney (left), superintendent of Mount Revelstoke and Glacier National Parks, and Glen O'Reilly, chairman of the Friends of Mount Revelstoke & Glacier, cut the celebratory chocolate cake to mark Parks Day 2010 and the opening of the FMRG's new store at Balsam Lake near the summit of Mount Revelstoke on Saturday. “Parks Canada protects and presents Mount Revelstoke National Park’s natural and cultural heritage in ways that connect people to these special places and create memorable experiences,” Tierney said. “We are extremely pleased that the Balsam Lake Bookstore has opened, providing visitors with items to make their visit more enjoyable as well as increase their understanding of the fragile alpine ecosystem they are visiting.” FMRG Executive Director Neills Kristensen lauded all the volunteers who helped renovate the old facility and prepare it for a new life as a retail outlet. “The bookstore is being developed in direct response to requests from visitors for a retail outlet at the summit. The bookstore will feature trail maps and educational books about the fragile alpine ecosystem as well as practical items such as water and insect repellent.” Photo courtesy of the Friends of Mount Revelstoke & Glacier
