All fires are now strictly prohibited in Mount Revelstoke and Glacier National Parks.
A statement from Parks Canada that was issued today said the ban eextends to all day-use and backcountry areas.
“Visitors are asked to use gas or propane stoves and barbeques during the fire ban,” the statement said. “All park facilities, including campgrounds, remain open. The fire ban restriction will be lifted as soon as weather and forest conditions permit.”
The national parks’ fire prohibition follows a provincial ban imposed earlier in the month. Southeast Fire District officials rate the wildfire risk in the Revelstoke area as very high to extreme.
