An early morning speed-enforcement program has netted police 250 marijuana plants. On April 28, officers from the Revelstoke Detachment, the Trans-Canada East Traffic Services and the Revelstoke Integrated Road Safety Unit were working on Highway 1, 10 kilometres east of town when they pulled a vehicle over for speeding.
While the police officer talked with the 55-year-old driver he detected an overpowering odour of marihuana. The driver was arrested and his truck and boat were searched. In them police found 250 immature marihuana plants along with growing medium and some pails. The Calgary man is now facing a charge of possession for the purpose of trafficking and will appear in Revelstoke Provincial Court in August.
With this most recent incident officers working on the Trans Canada Highway in the Revelstoke area have seized more than 10 pounds of dried marijuana, three grams of hash, 250 marijuana plants and close to $13,000 in cash since the start of the year.
The Trans-Canada Highway is a major drug corridor to the rest of the province. The efforts of these officers have made not only Revelstoke a safer place but also other communities where the drugs were destined.
