SD 19 denies RTA accusation

School District 19 Superintendent Mike Hooker said an accusation that the district reduced teachers’ salaries by $31,613 and increased principals and vice-principals salaries $90,400 is misleading.

He was reacting to comments by Revelstoke teachers’ Association President Jennifer Wolney who said in a statement on Monday, May 26, that: “Last Wednesday (May 21), School District #19 trustees approved the 2014/2015 annual budget which saw a $ 31,613 reduction of teachers’ salaries and $90,400 increase of principals and vice-principals salaries.”

Hooker said the school district will be down 1.5 teachers next year, hence the reduction, and District Vice-Principal for Technology Earl Woodhurst who retired this year is being replaced next year, which accounts for the increase for principals and vice-principals.
