Step into spring this evening with the In My Garden art show!

With 120 works, In My Garden, the Revelstoke Visual Arts Society’s first show of the 2014 exhibition season is clearly one of the largest members’ exhibits ever organized at the Revelstoke Art Gallery.

The show opens this evening, Friday April 11, at 6 pm and if you are — like me — absolutely sick of snow this show will warm your heart. It is a brilliant homage to the arrival of spring.

Many of these works truly stand out. Diane Winingder’s Taking Care of Business comes to mind. It is, in my opinion, one of the finest works he has created with coloured pencils. Julie Kozek’s, One Sunny, One Shy, is a gorgeous take on sunflowers and Jackie Pendergast’s Two’s Company deserves to be swiftly snapped up by some discerning art collector. There are a lot of ceramics on display from hanging plaques by Tanis Rebetoy to delightfully goofy-looking birds by Sandra Flood. And there’s more! Much, much more, representing the efforts and imaginations of Revelstoke’s exciting visual artists.

The second show that opens this evening is Bruce Thomas’ solo exhibition, Next Passage Out. Bruce is a complicated man and this show will give you an inkling of his inner depths. His complex prints are based on images of family members, mountains, vases and containers. Carefully layered, they constitute an intellectual and visual exploration of the nature of time and space. I don’t want to say much more. You’ll have to see them for yourselves.
