Four K1 athletes recently returned from the BC Winter games in Terrace on Shames Mountain March 5-7 where they competed against top racers from across the province. Summary of our local racers top results include:
Sonia Schwenck – slalom: 20th; GS: 22nd;
Max Scharf – slalom: 16th; GS: 12th
Mitch Smith – slalom: 14th; GS: 9th
Callum Hicks – slalom: 19th; GS: 32nd
K2 racers competed in their second of two provincial meets at Big White March 6-9th. Racers skied two days of two run combined Giant Slalom and two days of two run combined Slalom.
Top results for each racer included:
Emily Unterberger – GS: 12th; Slalom: 15th
Hannah Yauck – GS: 66th; Slalom: 61st
Adrian Bernava – GS: 46h; Slalom: 37th
Peter Behncke – GS: 5th; Slalom: 4th
Robert Bernava – GS: 49; Slalom: 42
Alexander Duchesne – GS: 20th; Slalom: 16th
Lachlan Hicks – GS: 9th; Slalom: 4th
Davis Roy – GS: 61st; Slalom: (Did not finish either run)
Cole Smith – GS: 7th; Slalom: 16th
Chris Wadey – GS: 44th; Slalom: 43rd
Landon Yauck – GS: 51; Slalom: (Did not finish either run)
Two of the above racers, Peter Behncke and Lachlan Hicks, qualified for the National Championships following their two provincial events and arrived in Collingwood, Ontario Saturday afternoon and will be competing against the best 14 and15 year old racers from across Canada Monday March 23 to Friday March 27th. The K1 racers are back at it this weekend at Red Mountain in Rossland competing in their Provincial event. As of Saturday night they have completed two of three days of racing with the following top results from their single run events in Giant Slalom and Slalom.
Anne-Marie Duchesne – GS: 40th; Slalom: 24th
Sara-Jo Howatt – GS: 68th; Slalom: 66th
Sonia Schwenck – GS: 16th; Slaloom: 21st
Thea Peasgood – GS: 89th; Slalom: 72nd
Callum Hicks – GS: 37th; Slalom: (did not finish either run)
Donovan Miskiman – GS: 95th; Slalom: 63rd
Bryce Molder – GS: 93rd; Slalom: 56th
Max Scharf – GS: 18th; Slalom: 16th
Mitch Smith – GS: 16th; Slalom: 10th.
Sunday’s action will have the racers competing in a Kombi race which consists of both tall and short slalom gates as well as GS gates.
Starting this Thursday March 25th the Revelstoke Ski Club and Revelstoke Mountain Resort will be hosting over 180 14 & 15 year old boys and girls from Manitob to BC for the Western Canadian K2 Championships. Racers will compete for top GS title on Thursday and Friday and Slalom Saturday and Sunday on the Hollywood run. This event is run with the great support of Revelstoke Mountain Resort and sponsored by Teck.
