Beloved husband, grandfather and friend passed away in Revelstoke, B.C. on December 8, 2017. Rene was born in Coleman, AB on January 30, 1949 to Otto and Phyllis Comin. He is survived by his wife, Patty Stolberg of Revelstoke, B.C.; his son, Graham Comin of Vernon, B.C.; stepchildren, Dawn Holmes of Coldstream, B.C. and Richard Stolberg of Golden, B.C.; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild with two more on the way. Rene is also survived by his brother, Robert (Kathy) Comin of Victoria, B.C. He was predeceased by his father in 1964; his sister, Rhonda in 1980; and his mother on July 20, 2017.
Rene grew up with a love of fishing in the Crowsnest Pass and in later years took up cooking and gardening with the same passion. He took pride in showing a gruff exterior and was known as “Rene the Meanie” by his niece and nephews but beneath the gruffness he had a remarkable capacity to show compassion and love to family and friends. Although Rene has lived in Australia, Saskatchewan, Northern Alberta and over the last 20 years in Revelstoke, he has always considered Coleman to be home, and will return to be interred with his parents and sister in the Coleman Catholic Cemetery.
A Memorial Service celebrating Rene’s life will be held prior to his interment at Fantin’s Funeral Chapel (13461, 20 Ave., Blairmore, AB) on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your local Legion Branch to support Veterans and Remembrance in your community.
The family would like to thank Dr. Chris MacDonald and Ann Marie Gill for their wonderful care of Rene over the last year.
