Canada Day 2017 will be an amazing celebration!

This year’s celebration of Canada’s 150th Birthday will be a truly remarkable one, says Community Centre Coordinator Meghan MacIsaac.

“In celebration of Canada 150 the Fire Department has joined our celebrations for July 1st to celebrate their 125th anniversary,” she told The Current, adding that there will also be a gala dinner and dance in the evening.

And, later in July, the Snowbirds will be here to continue the Canada 150 celebration.

Here’s an outline pf the day’s many family activities:

Starting in the morning Chubby Funsters will host a pancake breakfast starting at 9 am.

The kids’ bike-decorating contest will take place on First Street at 10 am, when they will then join in the end of the parade which takes place at 11 am this year. (The Farmers Market will also be on at this time and are to decorate their booths in red & white.)

Parade at 11 am will start at the courthouse, down first and up Mackenzie to QE Park where all the festivities are happening.

In the park the ceremonies will start at 12 or shortly thereafter and the activities will run until 5 pm. The Community Choir is to open the ceremony with O Canada, the ‘best bike’ age categories from the bike decorating contest will be announced and kids called on stage to receive their prizes. Dignitaries will then speak and there will be a dedication for fire engine No. 2. Fire fighters will compete in a fitness test show down in the park, the fire trucks will be on display in the park and on the streets.

The Canadian Italian Club will once again host the Bocce Tournament. Registration runs from 9am-11am at Queen Elizabeth Park. There is a limit of 12 teams who must be over 12 years of age. All players must arrive by 12 noon as play begins at 12:30 pm. Contact frank Pupo at 250-814-1078 if you have any questions.

There will be an unveiling of Revelstoke’s Canada 150 mural mosaic, cake by the Modern, music by the show band, the Time Benders with local music to follow. There will be a special beverage garden this year with local sponsorship by Mt. Begbie Brewery, Monashee Spirits Craft Distillery and Waterside Winery. There is also going to a kids’ bouncy zone, fun for all ages, sparkle tattoo artists, face painters, food vendors and more!

And that’s not all!

In the evening there is a Canada Day Gala to celebrate the fire fighters 125th and Canada’s 150th Birthday.

This formal attire event will have cocktail hour starting at 6 pm with a 2-man live band playing until 9 pm when the live band will come on. This Dinner and Dance and live band will be a catered event by La Baguette with bar (with local sponsors for the bar again) with service provided by Rotary. The fire fighters will be giving their speeches during the evening, with special guests including fire chiefs from years past. The evening will include a special outdoor area to lounge and watch fireworks over the Columbia river! Tickets are $50 and are now on sale at the Community Centre, Nomads, RCU insurance and the Esso station. People can reserve tables of 8.
