It is with deep and heavy sadness that we announce the death of Samuel {Sam) Thomas Howe who passed away peacefully with his family and faithful dog by his side at Mt Cartier Court, in Revelstoke on May 4th, 2017 at the age of 81 years.
Sam was born in Edberg, Alberta, on April 7, 1936, and had been a resident of Revelstoke since 1954. His life was spent in the trucking and logging industry doing various jobs. Sam loved the beauty the earth had to offer; he enjoyed learning about and experiencing nature, animals and history. He took great pride in his woodworking skills creating beautiful keepsakes for his loved ones. Sam would do anything for anyone with no expectation in return; a smile or thank you was always more than enough. Sam’s favourite pastime was being with family, extended family and close friends. He always enjoyed reminiscing about the past.
He is survived by his loving wife Fay of 60 years. His faithful dog Leo. Children: David (Irene) Howe, Julianne (Harvey) Tarzwell, Kenny (Renee) Howe. Grandchildren: Kari, Jaime (Sean), Krystal, Justin, Ashley (Matt), Davanna (David), Megan (Pat), Jennifer (Michael), Jordan and Breanna. Great-grandchildren: Jager, Tyson, Rayne, Trask, Roean, Addisyn, Kaeson, Linden, Aurora, Logan, Ecko and Kipten. Siblings: Myrle Nickel, Margaret (Allan) Wilson, Freddie (Carol) Howe; sisters-in-law Mona Howe and Cora Howe. And inlaws James Smith, Len (Bonnie) Smith, Shirley Mitchell, Noreen (Ron) Beauchene, Julien (Brenda) Smith, Robert Smith, Jim (Mary-Anne) Muskett and numerous nieces, nephews and close friends.
Sam was predeceased by his sons: Sam Jr, Brian “Hammi”, and daughter-in-law Nancy; grandsons: Sammy and David; Siblings: Charlie, Walter, Johnny, Tommy and sister-in-law’s Chris, Marie and Pat.
The family would like to acknowledge their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Chris Macdonald for his exceptional care and kindness to Sam and his family. They would also like to express their sincere thanks to the doctors and nurses who cared for Sam throughout his lengthy illness; Steven and staff at Pharmasave, and Gary and Chrissie Sulz at Brandon Bowers Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life Reception will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church Hall on Saturday afternoon, June 24th, 2017, at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to BC Children’s Hospital, 937 West 28th Avenue, Vancouver, B.C. V5Z 4H4, in memory of Sam.
