Obituary Notice — Elvire Helene Tetlock (nee Goossens)

It is with great sadness that the family of Elvire Tetlock announce her passing in Grande Prairie, Alberta, on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at the age of 95 years.

Elvire was born in Maldegem, Belgium, on March 7, 1922. During WWII she met a Canadian soldier, Smokey Tetlock and they were married in 1946. Elvire immigrated to Canada as a War Bride. She loved Canada and was so proud to become a Canadian citizen. Her biggest passion, besides her family, was playing bridge. Afternoon bridge parties became a large part of her life. She joined the Revelstoke Bridge Club and was a member for many years. Elvire attended the BC Senior Winter Games and along with Olive Lazzarotto won a gold medal. In 1969, Smokey and Elvire moved to Winnipeg where she quickly joined a Bridge Club and made many friends. After three years they moved back to Revelstoke. Smokey passed away in 1992 and in 2005 Elvire moved to Grande Prairie, Alberta, to be closer to her daughter Patricia. She was always homesick for Revelstoke and missed the mountains.

Elvire is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Allen) Larson of Sexsmith, Alberta, granddaughter Nicole Larson (Rod Arychuk); great grandsons, Kristjan and Arren of Fort, Saskatchewan, Alberta; granddaughter Erika (James) Gorgichuk; great granddaughter Shelby of Grande Prairie, Alberta; grandson Corey (Linda) Knoll; great grandson Jonathan of Regina, Saskatchewan; granddaughter, Martine (Brent) Stillwell of Carlyle, Saskatchewan as well as sister Bertha Bekaert-Goossens of Maldegem, Belgium and numerous nieces and other relatives in Belgium.

Elvire was predeceased by her husband Mervyn (Smokey), her daughter Myriam Knoll, her parents, brother Noel and sister Lena.

A Mass of Christian Burial will held on Saturday, August 5, 2017, at 11 am at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Revelstoke, followed by the interment of her cremated remains in the family plot of Mountain View Cemetery, Revelstoke.
