A noon-hour collision just outside town left two people injured and closed the Trans-Canada Highway for a while on Thursday afternoon, March 9.

“The vehicles collided head-on while passing on the Trans-Canada Highway, just west of the access to the Mount Revelstoke National Park,” Staff Sgt. Kurt Grabinsky said in the statement. “One vehicle involved, east bound, was a black Nissan Titan pickup where an injured adult male was entrapped in his vehicle and required to be removed by RFRS. The male was transported to Queen Victoria Hospital.

The second vehicle involved is a commercial tractor-trailer unit. The driver of that vehicle also suffered non-life threatening injuries. “

RCMP, Revelstoke Fire Rescue Service (RFRS), BC Ambulance Service (BCAS), Ministry of Transportation (MoT), EMCON, flaggers and tow companies were all called to the scene.

The vehicles collided head-on while passing on the Trans-Canada Highway, just west of the access to the Mt. Revelstoke National Park. One vehicle involved, east bound, was a black Nissan Titan pickup where an injured adult male was entrapped in his vehicle and required to be removed by RFRS. The male was transported to Queen Victoria Hospital.

“The second vehicle involved is a commercial tractor-trailer unit. The driver of that vehicle also suffered non-life threatening injuries.”

Drive of the westbound commercial drier was a provincial violation ticket for failing to keep right, as his truck was found to be 6 to 8 feet into the on-coming passing lane.

The location of the accident was on a two-lane section of the Trans-Canada Highway and resulted in a temporary closure of the highway while all first responders do their work. The highway was reopened by 3 pm.
