Round One of the first-ever Canadian Snow Bike MX Nationals took place at the Revy Riders’ Motorcross Racetrack down at the end of Westside Road this last Saturday, February 4.
It was followed by a night concert that was capped off with big stunts from X Games Silver & Bronze medallist, Brett Turcotte. He didn’t disappoint with his signature Superman seat grab backflip.
Round Two is set to go on Saturday Feb 25th at the same location from 8am to 4pm, followed by another Night Show.

The event was put on by a BC-based, family-owned company named MCQMX, mostly known for running dirt bike races. It seems they’ve found a new avenue for heart-thumping adrenaline-pumping action… except set in snow. And what better place to do that than the snow-capital of Canada?
Forty competitors threw on their boots and helmets to shred their way through a day of non-stop snow in four open competitions with two runs each.
The four classes were Pro, Intermediate, Sportsman, and Mods. Pro and intermediate classes are set up to be consistent with 450cc maximum dirt bike motocross, whereas Sportsman class is for new comers to the sport, and Mods is pretty much an anything-goes class.
Local boy Seth Chevrier took both the Intermediate and Mods titles, winning first place in both runs for each of those competitions.
At such a young age, he’s had many notable finishes, most recently becoming a Canadian National Arenacross Champion in his class in 2016, so it’s not surprising that this kid can evidently pound the laps just as hard on snow. He’s got one helluva future ahead of him.
Topping out the Pro Open competition were two recent X Games medal winners, Cody Matechuk and Brock Hoyer.
In the first-ever Snow Bike race held by the Winter X Games, this past January 2017, Hoyer beat out Matechuk after Matechuk lost the lead when he stalled out his machine. Hoyer took gold in that competition and Matechuk took Bronze. For the Revelstoke races, the tables were turned, when Hoyer stalled out in the first heat, leading to a first place win for Matechuk and a second place overall take for Hoyer. They’ve got quite a rivalry brewing between them, and the tie-breaker could very well be Round Two on Saturday February 25th.
